M5 crash: Police call on drivers to avoid area after three injured in collision

Police have urged drivers to avoid the area near J27 after a crash that injured three people on the M5 today (May 9th). At about 2 p.m., Devon and Cornwall police officers were called in for the incident with reports of a collision near J27 in the south.

According to the Inricks Road Traffic Monitoring Service, one lane of the road is closed and there are delays in the area. An eyewitness told DevonLive that “they have never seen so many blues and couples”.

Speaking to Devon Live, a police spokesman said: “Police were called shortly after 2pm with reports of an M5 collision near J27 in the south. At least four vehicles were damaged and three people were slightly injured so far. Emergency crews remain on the scene, and the car is currently being restored and cleaned.

“Please try to avoid the area if possible.” National highways said there was four miles of traffic and a car overturned. They tweeted: “# M5 south between J27 and J28, near #Honiton. 1 lane (out of 3) is closed due to a collision of 2 cars. 1 of the cars overturned. @DC_Police is on site with our traffic officers. Nearly 4 miles of traffic jams on the approach, adding approximately 20 minutes to the travel time. “
