Man dead after cart goes into Richmond Hill golf course pond: Police – Toronto

A man has died after a golf cart went into a lake on a Richmond Hill course, police said.

York Regional Police confirmed to Global News that emergency crews were called at 12 p.m. Monday to DiamondBack Golf Club, located in the area of ​​Leslie Street Bloomington Road.

Police said there were reports that a golf cart had gone into a lake and said a man was possibly injured.

In an update, police have confirmed that a man is missing.

“Initial reports (were) that the driver of the golf cart — a male — actually went into that lake and never came to the surface,” said York Police Sgt. David Mitchell said.

Mitchell said that after the crash, at least two course employees jumped into the water “in a desperate attempt to get this gentleman out or help him.”

“Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, we have not been able to explain where he is at this time,” he said, but noted that the man is believed to be in the lake.

Multiple calls to 911 were made.

A spokesman for Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services said fire crews searched for an hour and were unable to find anyone.

York Police’s sea and air units also responded to the scene.

However, later Monday night, York Regional Police confirmed that the body of a 71-year-old Toronto man had been found shortly before 4 p.m.

Police said the medical examiner went to the scene to identify the body.

Police said officers do not believe the death is “suspicious in nature.”
