Manchester United have made progress in negotiations with Barcelona for a key summer goal of Frankie de Jong and are trying to attract Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malassia.
Summer reconstruction is needed after a terrible season, but the giants of Old Trafford failed to bring new faces by the time Eric ten Haag began pre-season training on Monday.
Ten Hague was De Jong’s coach at Ajax and it is understood that United have made positive progress in negotiations with Barcelona.

Meanwhile, United’s teenager Zidane Iqbal has signed a new and improved contract with the club.
The Mancunian from Iraqi and Pakistani heritage made his debut in the Champions League match in December against Young Boys and signed a contract until June 2025, with an option for an additional year.
