A 37-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder of a single mother in Langford who was shot outside a gathering two years ago.
“I’m coming forward voluntarily, there was no coercion of any kind,” Anthony Singh Diensow told the courtroom, appearing virtually from prison.
In Victoria, a small courtroom was packed with Angela Dallman’s friends and family, who gasped with relief and wiped away tears after hearing the guilty plea.
The 40-year-old single mother was murdered in front of a gathering on Friday, March 6, 2020, in Langford. After firing two shots, Deanshaw fled the scene in a car, but was arrested by police the next morning.
“I heard two loud bangs, they were so loud I thought they were explosions. Three women ran out of the back of the house screaming and crying, saying ‘call the police, call the police!'” said one witness on the night of the incident. “I heard one of them say she was shot.”
Dahlman was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries, leaving behind a teenage son.
“What we do know is that there was a gathering at that residence where the shooting occurred. At this time we are unsure of the relationship between the victim and the suspect,” said Const. Nancy Sagar of the West Shore RCMP the day after the shooting.
To date, Dheensaw has not only pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Angela Dallman on March 6, 2020, but also pleaded guilty to using a firearm in the attempted murder of a man named Derrick Oke on the same date. Details of the case have not been released.
But Deansaw should never have had the gun he used to shoot and kill Dalman or Oke in the first place. According to court records, he was under a court-ordered lifetime firearms ban following an assault conviction in North Vancouver in 2018.
According to court records, a few days before he shot Dallman, Deansow was also arrested for drug and gun possession. Those charges are still pending.
A date for statements of fact, victim impact statements and sentencing for Dalman’s murder will be set later this month.
