Manchester United fans have slammed Harry Maguire and questioned his captaincy after he appeared to like an Instagram post about Cristiano Ronaldo’s anger at a rumored 25 per cent pay cut for players.
There were already calls for the England defender to lose the Old Trafford armband after a difficult season and those cries have now increased following his apparent blunder on social media.
SportBible published a picture of Ronaldo, along with a caption explaining that he was “reportedly upset at the 25% pay cut for Manchester United’s players” following their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Supporters claim Maguire ‘not fit to captain Manchester United’ after blunder
Under the post, it was liked by Maguire’s official account, leading to much anger from United fans over his decision to publicly react to an issue behind the scenes.
One fan wrote: “Harry Maguire shouldn’t play another game for Manchester United,” while another added: “Captain’s joke,” before tagging the player himself.
Another equally furious supporter added: “Harry Maguire is easily the Manchester United captain’s worst player. It epitomizes the terrible standards at the club.
While another commented: “Liking posts like Harry Maguire’s is what you call unprofessional behaviour. He is in no way fit to be Manchester United captain!’
This latest incident is just the latest for new boss Erik ten Hag to deal with as United return to pre-season.
The week was already dominated by the absence of Ronaldo, who refused to return to Carrington as he hoped to arrange a summer move.

Citing “family reasons”, the Portuguese has not joined up with his team-mates since the summer break, leaving Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Napoli on red alert.
Meanwhile, Maguire is back, but now he could also face the wrath of the Ten Hag if the manager doesn’t take kindly to his social media activity.
At the end of the week, United will fly to Bangkok to face Liverpool in their first pre-season game before heading Down Under for games against Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
They then return to Europe for a match with Atletico Madrid in Oslo, although it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will be present for any of the five games.
