Many people died in a shooting at Maryland’s NBC4 Washington plant

A gunman opened fire at a manufacturing facility in western Maryland on Thursday afternoon, killing many people, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the active shooting in block 12900 on Bikle Road in Smithsburg around 2:30 p.m.

The Washington County Sheriff said there were “numerous deaths.”

The suspect was shot and wounded in a clash with a Maryland State police officer, the sheriff’s office said. The shooter has been hospitalized, but their condition is unclear.

The policeman was slightly injured, authorities said.

The shooting range is about seven miles from Hagerstown, Maryland.

No additional information was immediately available.
