Are there too many Marvel movies and TV shows? Lost and Guardians showrunner Damon Lindelof recently said he’d like to see fewer Marvel movies, so “anyone who [comes] outside [feels] a little more special,” but Marvel follower Mark Ruffalo isn’t too concerned. The actor reprises his role as Bruce Banner in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, one of nearly a dozen MCU TV series that have launched on Disney+ in less than two years. Ruffalo doesn’t think Marvel’s output should be limited.
“It’s not something I’m worried about,” Ruffalo said when asked by Metro.co.uk if there was too much Marvel content. “I understand that these things go and then something else comes along. But what Marvel has done well is that within the MCU, just like they do with the comics, they allow a director or an actor to recreate each piece in their own style, in their own likeness. Marvel usually lets them carry that over into the material.
To prove his point, Ruffalo threw some shade at the Star Wars universe. The actor said: “If you watch Star Wars, you’re going to get the same version of Star Wars almost every time. There might be some humor. It may have slightly different animation. But you really are always in this same world. But with Marvel, you can have a whole different feel, even in the Marvel universe.”
Marvel released two movies this year (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder), with the third and final feature film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, due out on November 11. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, starring Ruffalo, marks Marvel’s third series of the year, with the holiday Guardians of the Galaxy still to come. That’s seven different Marvel entries in one year.
As for 2023, Marvel has four movies set to hit theaters, including “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and “Blade,” and potentially six or more Marvel series in the works during that 12 months , including “Secret Invasion” and “Loki” Season 2.
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” launches August 18 on Disney+.
