Matthew Wright didn’t shy away from his true feelings when he appeared in This Morning. The former host of The Wright Stuff appeared on ITV’s daily show on Friday (June 3rd) with Gyles Brandreth to discuss the latest headlines.
Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond hosted the show again, with the studio decorated with Union Jack. As they sat with their guests for the latest segment, This Morning View, it was, of course, dominated by the celebration that marked the start of the Queen’s platinum anniversary on Thursday (June 2nd).
The royal family was in power at the annual Trooping the Color military parade before the 96-year-old monarch appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in front of thousands of people as they watched the latest flight. The event marked the beginning of four-day events for both the royal family and the public, as the queen celebrates 70 years on the throne.

As Alison and Dermot discussed the highlights of their guests’ first day, Matthew soon shared his own thoughts. “We talked earlier and it’s wonderful and the spectacle I’m getting, but at a time when we’re bleeding money as a state,” he said. “If you were a celebrity spending coupons, millions, on parties, when you went bankrupt, people would be outraged, and that’s a shame. But that’s what we do as a nation. “
“What do you think we should do?” Dermot then asked when Matthew replied, “I think everything can be reduced just a little,” before later getting angry that the celebrations were “funded by the public coffers.” But Alison objected: “If this is the end of an era, we certainly have to do a lot of things? If this is the last time this will happen. So, yes, let’s see if we enjoy it. “
