Meteor shower peak tonight: Best time to see Eta Aquarid meteors Science News

Meteor showers create stunning celestial images, and today it is the turn of the British to watch them. Astronomers predict that Eta Aquarids will pass through the atmosphere over the United Kingdom tonight. The meteors will decorate the sky of the United Kingdom in a few hours, and experts have revealed the best time to watch the event.

What is the best time to see the Eta Aquarid meteor shower?

Eta Aquarids is the product of Halley’s Comet, a celestial object discovered in 1758 that orbits the Earth once in its lifetime in its 75-year orbit around the Sun.

The upcoming meteor shower comes from the comet’s long tail, which throws debris into the atmosphere.

As its peak falls between May 5 and 6, Eta Aquarids can cause up to 50 meteors per hour.

In May, the astronomical twilight falls between 2.47 am and the “civil twilight” approximately two hours later at 4.45 am.

As long as the weather is clear, people should have no trouble watching the meteors on the morning of May 6.

Observers will want to take a chair outside and sit and watch the display for a few hours.

According to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, meteors should be visible to the naked eye.
