One of the ministers in the shadow of Keir Starmer withdrew from the front team of the Labor leader.
In a resignation letter issued Thursday, Mike Amesbury said he wanted more freedom to campaign in the local constituency.
The MP, who last week expressed sympathy for the striking workers, also said he wanted to “stand shoulder to shoulder with everyone whose only demand is a fair deal for them and their families”.
He added: “I intend to provide this support and voice from the back benches.”
Last week, a Weaver Vale MP bypassed Sir Cair’s ban on front-line voters in support of rail strikes, commenting that “workers are not taking their jobs lightly” and adding: “They are struggling to keep jobs in this crisis of life”.
The order of the Labor leadership to his team not to attend the pickets caused private concern among some of his previous candidates, especially after the polls showed widespread public support for the industrial action and its goals.
But Mr Amesbury said he was proud of what Labor was doing and hoped Sir Cair would become prime minister, with a “goal” and a “bold proposal”.

“Our recent success in Wakefield is based on the good results of the local elections in England, Scotland and Wales, it brings us back well and really back on the field. “I will do my best to work with the Labor movement to ensure that the Labor Party wins and puts you at 10 Downing Street,” he said.
“This must be a victory for a goal, a mission to drive inequality in Britain with a bold proposal that gives hope, gives strength to people and our communities.
He added: “I secured my marginal place from the Tories in 2017 and kept it under very challenging circumstances in 2019. In both elections, I promised to put my constituents first. I believe that if I have to keep doing this, I cannot give the role of Minister of Local Government in the shadow the energy it requires and deserves. ”
Mr. Amesbury has been a shadow minister for local government since 2021 and was previously a shadow minister for employment.
Lisa Nandi, who leads the local government team in the shadows, said it was “an absolute pleasure to work with” Mr Amsbury, adding: “Your constituents are happy to have them.”
