Minor injuries after the driver crashed through the front window of a restaurant in Orleans

One man was treated for a minor injury after a driver crashed into a restaurant in Orleans on Tuesday afternoon.

Ottawa police told CTV News Ottawa that the crash occurred shortly after 1:20 p.m. on St. Joseph’s between St. Jean Street and Belcourt Boulevard.

The driver is not trapped, but fire crews have been called in to assess the integrity of the building housing the Garlic King restaurant.

Ottawa paramedic spokesman Mark-Antoine Deschamps said two people had been assessed at the scene and released, and one was slightly injured. No one demanded a trip to the hospital.

The building did not need additional structural support, and police were able to safely remove the vehicle from the front of the restaurant, said Ottawa Fire Department spokesman Nick DeFasio.

It is not clear why the driver crashed through the window. Police say there is an active investigation.

The restaurant remained closed on Tuesday, but plans to reopen on Wednesday.
