The 92nd Major League Baseball All-Star Game took place on Tuesday, and it was one for the books.
In the first All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium since 1980, the National League hoped to close the gap on the American League, which led 46-43-2 in the series entering the contest.
All hopes were eventually dashed when Giancarlo Stanton and Byron Buxton hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning to give the AL a 3-2 lead. That was enough to extend the young chain’s hitting streak to nine, improving the AL to 21-5-1 since 1994.
Stanton, who grew up in Los Angeles, was awarded the game’s MVP in front of 50 friends and family. It was his first All-Star appearance since 2017. He became the first Yankee to win the honor since Mariano Rivera in 2013 and the first Yankee position player since Derek Jeter in 2000.

NL scored two runs in the first innings, but was unable to produce anything else the rest of the game.
Framber Valdez of the Houston Astros got the win and Tony Gonsolin of the Los Angeles Dodgers took the loss, something he had avoided so far in the regular season. Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers and Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays were the starting pitchers.

The streak continues

Emmanuel Clase struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to slam the NL shutout.
Julio!

Heads-up
When Ryan Helsley throws gas, every ball off the bat comes at you hard. Just ask Jake Cronenworth, whose face narrowly missed meeting the ball.
Helsley held the AL scoreless and the score remained 3-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth.
Plumbing
Hurry, grab a tissue before you watch a young fan tell Kershaw about his late grandfather, who wanted to meet the Dodgers starter but never did.
what would you say
If someone had told Jose Trevino at the start of the season that he would be making the All-Star Game, he would have been almost speechless.
“That’s right,” he said sarcastically. – Correct.
He ripped a single to right but was stranded in the top of the seventh.
Mini-sweet
Nestor Cortez and Jose Trevino were mic’d up in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cortez got into trouble as he walked Austin Riley and hit Travis d’Arnaud with a pitch, but managed a strikeout by Garrett Cooper.
Watch and listen to the Yankees’ battery speak through Riley’s bat.
Face Cancer
Before Arizona’s Joe Mantiply retired from the AL on nine pitches, Major League Baseball and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Vocal Ensemble showed their support for anyone who has been touched by cancer.
Big Papi in the house
Is David Ortiz ready for a comeback? It sounded like AL manager Dusty Baker was saving the Hall of Famer for the ninth inning, but only if the AL needed some help. After all, late-innings heroics are kind of his thing.
However, the AL hasn’t lost an ASG by scoring more than two runs since 1994, and that wasn’t going to change on Tuesday.
High five for a legend
The NL was scoreless in the bottom of the fourth, but Albert Pujols got some love from the dugout after flying out in his first at-bat.
Souvenir city
Giancarlo Stanton, who attended Dodgers games as a child, joined Tom Verducci along with Byron Buxton after launching rockets into the stands.
“Stanton kind of gave me a little push right here,” Buxton said.

Rock Paper Scissors
In the bottom of the third, Framber Valdez sent the National League down in order — with three ground balls — while two Yankees were on the microphone.
It turns out that Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge are playing games like charades or rock, paper, scissors, or just trying to guess what the pitcher is throwing.
