Mo Salah dropped a bomb at his Champions League press conference with a shocking statement about his future in Liverpool.

The Reds striker was inevitably asked about the stalemate in his contract with the club, even as he looked forward to another huge final in a historic season for Jurgen Klopp’s side. And while he diplomatically avoided answering questions about the talks, he said – emphatically – that he would stay at Anfield next season.

As a clear indication of his intentions, the Egyptian midfielder seems to have suggested that even if he does not agree to a new contract, he will see the last year of his current contract. Speaking on Liverpool’s indoor training ground at the AXA training ground, he said simply: “I’m staying next season for sure, that’s clear.”

Negotiations for Salah’s contract are stalled, with the player and the club suggesting they will now be recruited after the end of the season. It is understandable that there are certain obstacles regarding the size of the transaction and the duration of the contract.

His current agreement was signed a little less than four years ago and took him until the summer of 2023 as a Liverpool player. This means that he will be a free agent at the end of the 2022-23 season, and that he can talk to foreign clubs and reach an agreement before the contract in January.

There are only six months left until that, and it seems that Salah already intends to fulfill his current contract, even if he cannot conclude a new deal. But it also offers a surprising prospect for a new deal in the summer. If Liverpool didn’t mind giving him a new contract, then they would certainly try to cash in before he became a free agent.

And it would be logical for Salah himself to look to leave in search of the money he wants, which is estimated to be £ 400,000+ a week. He is 30 in June and that means that the time is running out to sign the last huge contract at the end of his career.

He will turn 31 in the summer of 2023 and this will certainly affect his profits then, even if there are still many clubs that are interested in his services. Salah has always said he wants to stay at Anfield, but he wants his service to the club and his influence on the pitch to be recognized.

Speaking about these talks, the winner of the Golden Shoe in the Premier League said: “I do not think I am focusing on the contract at the moment. Two months ago I said that now it is about the team, an important week for us, winning the trophy is the only important thing and I want to see Hendo hold the trophy in his hands.

He then dropped the bomb that he would definitely stay for next season, assuming that he would either fulfill his contract to force Liverpool to negotiate or go free in the summer of 2023.
