Country Hall of Fame was “shocked and saddened” by Judd’s death, CEO Kyle Young said in a statement on Twitter. However, Judd’s family has demanded that the induction of the mother-daughter duo The Judds continue as planned, he said.
“We will do it with heavy hearts,” Young wrote.
Judd has died at the age of 76, her daughters said on Saturday, hours before the country music legend – half of The Judds, along with her daughter Winona – was due to be celebrated at the medallion’s award ceremony at the Nashville Museum.
It is unclear how the ceremony could be altered or adjusted after Judd’s death. A separate tweet on the Hall of Fame page reported that the previous Red Carpet Experience ceremony, scheduled for Sunday afternoon, had been canceled in light of Judd’s death.
In their Twitter messages, the daughters of Judd Winona and Ashley, an actress, wrote that they had “lost our beautiful mother to mental illness.”
“We are dealing with deep grief and we know that just as we loved her, she was loved by her audience,” her daughters added. “We are in unfamiliar territory.”
Naomi Judd said during a 2016 appearance on Good Morning America that she was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety. That same year, she wrote a book, entitled The River of Time: My Descent and How I Emerged with Hope, explaining her struggles. the country to its roots in the 1980s with slender, melodic songs influenced by traditional folk music, acoustic blues and family harmony. ”
The mother-daughter duo began playing together as a professional artist in the early 1980s, soon producing a series of big hits such as “Mama He’s Crazy” and “Love Can Build a Bridge” and selling more than 20 million records. Between 1984 and 1991, The Judds won five Grammy Awards and had 14 singles № 1 in the Hall of Fame.
While Winona sang the lead role, “Naomi provided harmony, wit and a bright stage presence that engaged the audience,” the Hall of Fame said.
The statement was updated after the news of Judd’s death, noting: “The museum, Judas’ family and fans and the entertainment industry are saddened by her sudden disappearance.”
Judds performed together publicly for the first time in years at the CMT Music Awards early last month, singing “Love Can Build a Bridge.” Judd’s death also came shortly after the announcement of The Judds’ “Final Tour” of 10 dates, which was due to begin in September.
CNN’s Andy Rose and Christina Maxuris contributed to the report.
