NBA Draft 2022: Paolo Banchero selected for first choice by Orlando Magic

The 19-year-old Banchero plays for Duke University, averaging 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 39 starts.

The striker seemed to shine under the intense pressure of the draft, wearing a purple suit and trying to contain his excitement.

“It’s not even a dream. I feel like it’s a fantasy. “I dreamed of being in the NBA, but being number one in general is crazy,” Banchero told reporters as he sat next to his mother.

“I don’t even know what to say. I can’t believe what just happened, to be honest. I wanted to be in the NBA, but I didn’t know I was going to be here.”

Banchero says he plans to bring “everything” he has to the Orlando Magic, who struggled last season with a record of 22-60.

“First, just a winning way of thinking, thinking first about work,” he added. “I’m just ready to join the boys and get to work. It’s one of the best moments of my life. I’m very excited.”

Fashion and useful moments

Chet Holmgren was the overall second pick in the draft, heading for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The big man, standing more than six feet nine inches, said he wanted to use his natural qualities to help his new team.

“I can use my length and speed to cover a lot of land and take up space,” he told reporters.

However, Thunder’s next practice may be a bit confusing, as the franchise also chooses Jalen Williams and Jaylene Williams (not related) in the same project.

There was a lot of fun at the draft, which took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Players were not shy in choosing a wardrobe with a set of outfits covering the full spectrum of the show’s fashion.

There was also a heartbreaking moment when Jaden Ivy was overwhelmed with emotion after being selected fifth overall by the Detroit Pistons.

He became the last member of his family to be promoted to professional basketball with his mother, Notre Dame women’s head coach Neil Ivey, who previously played for the WNBA’s Detroit Shock.

“That’s all, man, I worked day after day, just to get to that level, and I know I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for her and I’m so happy, I’m so happy,” Jalen said of his choice.

Nile, meanwhile, barely had a word for the moment: “I’m almost speechless, you know, it’s his dream come true, to be in Detroit, we have so many amazing roots in Detroit, you know about him that I can go on this stage, so I’m so joyful, so happy for him, so I just accept everything, I absorb everything. “
