In a six-party race against Democratic Gov. JB Pritzker this November, State Senator Darren Bailey will win the Republican nomination, NBC News projects.

Bailey, who was elected to the U.S. Senate by Xenia, received significant state support and welcome approval from former President Donald Trump in the late stages of the primary cycle.

Bailey turned down a crowded field that included Aurora Mayor Richard Irwin, who was one of the first favorites in the campaign after using $ 50 million in donations from Illinois billionaire Ken Griffin to buy a variety of television commercials.

Irwin also faced a waning stream of advertisements for an attack from Pritzker himself and the Association of Democratic Governors in the late stages of the campaign.

Bailey also overtook businessman Jesse Sullivan, whose message as an outsider was considered key as he gained support at the end of the election.

According to forecasts, businessman Gary Rabin, former state senator Paul Schimpf and lawyer Max Solomon finished well from the pace of the race.

Bailey and his candidate will now face Pritzker and Juliana Stratton in the November election. Pritzker will run for a second term, while Bailey hopes to oust the man he messed with in court during the COVID pandemic, suing to mitigate the governor’s health measures and policies.

Bailey criticized the governor’s economic policies, citing the departure of several company headquarters in recent months as evidence that Pritzker had negatively affected the number of jobs in Illinois.

The Democratic Governors’ Association has already run ads against Bailey, calling his policies “far-right” and inconsistent with Illinois voters.
