Today, NCAA Board of Governors Chairman John J. Degia announced by mutual agreement with the board that Mark Emmert would step down as president of the NCAA. He will continue to serve until a new president is elected or until June 30, 2023.

“Throughout my term, I have emphasized the need to focus on the experience and priorities of student-athletes,” Emmert said. “I am extremely proud of the work of the Association over the last 12 years and particularly pleased with the hard work and dedication of the staff of the National Office here in Indianapolis.”

“With the significant transitions that are taking place in college sports, the timing of this decision provides the Association with consistent leadership in the coming months plus the opportunity to consider what the future role of the president will be,” DeGioya said. “It also allows for the election and hiring of the next president without interruption.

NCAA member schools adopted a new constitution in January and are in the process of transforming their structure and mission to meet future needs.
