Hamilton police have released new video footage showing a suspect attempting to set fire to a place of worship twice in less than 24 hours.
The arson attempts took place at a Jehovah’s Witness facility on Delaware Avenue on the night of August 4th/August 5th.
In the first incident around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, police say the suspect spray-painted the outside of the building and then lit a fire next to the back door. Police say the same suspect then returned to the building around 9:30 p.m. the next night, this time starting a fire near the front entrance.
Video footage released by police captured both arson attempts.
It shows the suspect approaching the building on foot, carrying a bag.
He then puts the bag down and sets it on fire before running off.
In the second incident, a large explosion can be seen as the suspect sets the bag on fire and quickly walks away from the flames.
The police specify that they are appealing to the residents of the surrounding area and businesses to review the recordings from the surveillance cameras from the nights in question.
The suspect is described as a clean-shaven white male of medium height and weight. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the Hockey Canada logo, as well as dark pants and dark shoes.
