Police shot and killed a gunman in the Bronx on Friday night after he shot two detectives in civilian clothes, sources and authorities said.
The shooting took place after cops, members of the drug department, came across a dispute between at least two people on Seneca Avenue and Hunts Point Avenue in the Hunts Point area of the neighborhood around 7 pm, according to law enforcement sources.
A man involved in the feud went to a nearby car and picked up a gun, sources said. New York police said the suspect shot at the cops, prompting them to return fire by hitting the man.
According to sources, the suspect was taken to Lincoln Hospital, where he later died.
The cops were not hit by gunfire. They were taken to Jacobi Medical Center because of tinnitus, sources said.
Friday night’s shooting marked the second shooting by police in the neighborhood in just three days.
Denis Vargas, a 32-year-old police officer, was shot in the arm on Tuesday night during a shootout with a suspect in the Clermont section, officials said.
