New York suspect in unprovoked subway raids arrested and released the day before: report

A New Yorker man who was arrested over the weekend for stabbing two people did so just a day after he was picked up by police and then released for brandishing a knife, according to a report.

Donnie Ubiera, 32, who was arrested on Saturday after allegedly stabbing two people – one on Friday and one on Saturday – was jailed for showing a large knife to police and was later released from prison on Thursday, New reported. York Post.

Ubiera’s crime reportedly lasted four days, culminating in his arrest Saturday night.

Police on Wednesday responded to calls from a man with a knife and found Ubier refusing to release his weapon, the New York Post reported. According to the report, the man then fled the staff, but was caught, arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and a controlled substance, as well as reckless threat.

Ubiera spent the night in jail and was allowed to walk on Thursday for “time spent”, the newspaper reported.

The next day, it is alleged that the suspect carried out an unprovoked attack on the first of the two victims, a 62-year-old man who cut his face, the New York Police Department said.

The attack took place on train 7 south around 8:40 a.m., police said. Ubiera then fled on foot, police said.

On Saturday, around 7:15 am, Ubiera attacked a second victim on the platform of the northern train line 7, police said. Ubiera allegedly pulled out a large knife, approached a 55-year-old man and stabbed him in the neck, New York police said.

He was arrested again, 12 hours after the stabbing incident on Saturday. He has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, assault and possession of a weapon in subway attacks, police said.

Both victims were hospitalized at NYC Health and Hospitals / Elmhurst and are expected to recover.

The New York Post reports that Ubiera clashes with police include charges of beating a man with a stick in a bakery on June 8; pulls out a knife and threatens an employee who tried to stop him from stealing on January 8; four unique attacks on four individual workers on December 27, 2021; and an incident on November 5, when he attacked a man in a homeless shelter.
