Mr Javid asked Sir Gordon to consider “what is needed to improve the way health and social care is run and managed in England”.
Other recommendations include the creation of a “single set of unified, basic standards for leadership and management for managers”.
Following its publication on 8 June, Mr Javid said that there were “too many people working in roles focused solely on diversity and inclusion” and said that the number should be reduced.
However, Sir Gordon later insisted that the report “does not recommend the reduction of EDI professionals”, instead stating that if EDI concepts become part of managers’ responsibilities, then the number of dedicated employees could “decrease over time”. .
A source from the Ministry of Health said the review was “only a small part of our reform agenda” and that Sir Gordon had been given “the freedom to follow the evidence”. The “whole goal” of the report is “to improve patient outcomes.”
Meanwhile, a report by the Brexit Policy Center, backed by figures including Sir Ian Duncan Smith, the former Tory leader, and Alexander Downer, Australia’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, will warn this week that “the idea that we are a country the decline is deeply rooted in our elites, especially in Whitehall and Westminster. ”
