Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty avoided a 10-year prison sentence after failing to register as a sex offender when he moved to California with his wife.

Instead, Petty, 44, will be forced to remain under house arrest at his multimillion-dollar Calabasas mansion for the next year and ordered to pay a $55,000 fine.

Petty, who married Minaj, 39, in 2019, pleaded guilty in September to a federal charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

While he faced a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison with life supervised release, he was sentenced Wednesday to just one year of house arrest and three years of probation, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Petty was convicted of attempted first-degree rape of a 16-year-old girl in 1995, for which he was sentenced to four years in prison.

He is considered a Tier 2 offender in New York State, which equates to being considered a “moderate risk to reoffend.”

Petty began dating Minaj in 2018 and they married a year later and moved to California.

Married: Petty, who married Minaj (pictured), 39, in 2019, pleaded guilty back in September to a federal charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

Petty was taken into custody by the Beverly Hills Police Department in November 2019 and discovered he was a registered sex offender in New York, even though he didn’t register in California when he moved, which he should have done.

Petty then pleaded guilty, but his hearing was adjourned several times before sentencing.

Prosecutors recommended 15 months in prison and five years of supervised release rather than house arrest because he lives with Minaj in a gated complex in Calabasas, which they argued was not particularly “punitive.”

The judge ultimately disagreed, sentencing the fifth to one year of house arrest, plus three years of probation and a $55,000 fine.

Petty also ran into legal trouble in August when Jennifer Gau, Petty’s alleged rape victim, filed a lawsuit against both him and Minaj.

Howe claims that both Minaj and Petty tried to force her to drop her rape accusation and even offered her $500,000 to do so.

She also accused them of causing emotional distress, although she voluntarily dropped the case against Minaj.

“The case against Nikki was voluntarily dismissed. The case against Kenneth Petty is still ongoing. Stay tuned!” said Hough’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn.

Neither Petty nor Minaj have commented on the verdict.
