Numerous casualties were reported during the shooting in Smithsburg, Maryland, on Thursday afternoon, authorities said.

“The suspect is no longer a threat to the community,” the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Smithsburg is about 70 miles northwest of Washington, DC
