State and local officials have agreed to release surveillance video from inside a hallway at Robb Elementary School during the May 24 mass shooting that left 19 students and two teachers dead, a key Texas lawmaker said Monday .
The development appears to end a week-long dispute between the Texas Department of Public Safety and Uvalde’s mayor over how to handle the sensitive video, though it’s unclear when the video will be released.
The public eventually became a source of conflict between some members of the victims’ families and officials who claimed to represent their interests.
During a hearing Monday in Austin, Congressman Dustin Burroughs, chairman of a Texas House special committee investigating the Robb shooting, said the video “will not contain graphic or violent images” but supported the release of footage of the reaction of police to help the public better understand what happened at the school.
“I can tell people all day what I saw, the committee can tell people all day what we saw, but it’s very different to see it for yourself,” Burroughs said. “And we think that’s very important.”

Burroughs did not say when the video would be released, but pledged to “continue to press the situation and consider all options to ensure that the video is available for public viewing.”
More than six weeks after the massacre, questions remain about the police response and the 77 minutes that passed between the time the gunman entered the school and when law enforcement burst into the classroom and killed him.
