Kelowna RCMP say one person died from a drowning in Wood Lake on Saturday.
Witnesses told RCMP that several other boaters found two men in distress, and according to RCMP, the man drowned while trying to help another passenger in the water.
“One man was saved with a life jacket, but unfortunately the second man, who was brought back to the Oyama cutter to meet the first responders, died,” said Kelowna RCMP Cpl. Judith Bertrand.

Lake Country and Kelowna RCMP officers responded to the incident around 7:30 p.m. The British Columbia Coroner’s Office also went to the scene and took over the investigation.

“We want to congratulate the people who helped in the rescue operations. The wearing and easy access to life jackets made a significant difference in the outcome of this tragic event.”
