One killed, one in critical condition after ammonia leak in Mount Paul Industrial Park

BC’s emergency services provided the following details:

One patient was transported to the hospital in critical condition. Two patients were transported to the hospital in stable condition. About six other patients in stable condition were evaluated on site.

Interior Health provided this statement to CFJC Today:

Domestic healthcare can confirm that Royal Inland Hospital has made preparations to receive patients from an accident in Kamloops. We do not have details of the incident itself, but we have so far been informed that approximately eight patients have been taken to hospital. We ask people with non-urgent needs to avoid coming to the emergency department while we deal with the current situation.

Later Thursday afternoon, IH confirmed that the hospital had treated four patients, all of whom had been discharged.

The reason for the leak is still unclear.

In a social media post, the city of Kamloops asked the public to stay away from the Mount Paul Industrial Park area while authorities investigate and deal with the situation.
