One person has died after a parachute accident near Arnprior Airport

Provincial police say one person has died after a skydiving accident in Arnprior, Ont., Wednesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to an area near the Arnprior Airport around 12:44 p.m., according to Renfrew OPP Const. Tina Hunt.

“It’s a parachute accident,” she said, adding that one person had been confirmed dead.

Michael Nolan, chief of paramedics for Renfrew County, said the skydiver suffered “significant traumatic injuries” after coming into contact with the ground at “increased speed.”

“Despite best resuscitation efforts by the two paramedics at the scene, the individual died from his injuries,” he added.

Hunt was not immediately able to share the age or gender of the person killed.

A person who answered the phone at the airport said Parachute Ottawa is working with authorities but would not comment further.

Hunt said officers are still on the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
