Victoria Police said the hours-long armed standoff ended Saturday night with the man in custody.

Officers were called to a home near Mason St. and Quadra St. around 6:30 p.m. for reports of a man in crisis who had injured himself and was refusing medical attention.

When police arrived, they learned the subject had self-inflicted injuries to his neck and barricaded himself inside the home.

The Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) was called and worked to bring the incident to a peaceful resolution for several hours.

Police said shortly after 10:00 p.m., the individual armed himself and attempted to attack officers at the home’s front door.

Officers used less lethal ammunition to disarm the subject and take him into custody.

The suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital for medical evaluation and psychiatric care.
