Montreal police say a man has been detained after four people were stabbed in downtown Montreal on Sunday morning.
The Montreal Police Department (SPVM) received a call around 6:50 a.m. for a 26-year-old man in crisis on Drummond Street near Sherbrooke Street W.
Police arrested him for assaulting his mother and stepfather, 72, with a “sharp object” before stabbing a woman in another apartment, according to Radio Canada. The 54-year-old security guard who tried to intervene was also stabbed, SPVM spokesman Marian Aler-Morin said.
The 72-year-old man was found dead on the spot. His death marks the 13th murder in Montreal this year.
The other victims were taken to hospital, where police say they are in stable condition.
Employees are currently conducting an on-site inspection.
