Ontario health officials report the lowest employment in COVID-19 intensive care in the province in six months as disease-related hospitalizations continue to decline.
Health officials said on Saturday that 144 people in the intensive care unit tested positive for COVID-19. The last time the province registered such a low number of intensive care units was on November 28, when Ontario reported 135 people in the intensive care unit.
In the province, 865 people are registered in a hospital with COVID-19. Of the 40 percent hospitalized, they sought help because of COVID-19, while the remaining patients were admitted to the hospital for unrelated reasons and tested positive for the virus.
In intensive care, 65% of patients were admitted to COVID-19.
Officials also confirmed an additional 13 deaths related to the virus. Twelve of the deaths occurred in the last 30 days, while one occurred more than a month ago and was added to the cumulative number.
Three of these deaths are among those in long-term care.
Ontario, meanwhile, reported 1,144 new cases of COVID-19, bringing Ontario’s total number from March to 2020 to 1,301,018. But health officials warned that that number was underestimated due to limited testing.
With 11,297 tests processed in the last 24 hours, Ontario reported a test positive of 8.5 percent.
