Ottawa firefighters are battling a blaze at a Merivale Road restaurant

Ottawa firefighters put out a fire at a restaurant on Merivale Road.

Firefighters were called to Maryvale north of Womount Drive at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday with reports of flames visible on the roof of a Montana restaurant.

Fire crews arrived within three minutes and began putting out the fire. Police closed Merivale Road in both directions between Viewmount and Family Brown Lane, giving crews room to stage an attack from above, Ottawa Fire Department spokesman Nick DeFasio told CTV News. The road has reopened since then.

The restaurant was evacuated and firefighters confirmed that no one was still inside. No casualties were reported.

OFS tweeted that firefighters prevented the fire that started on the roof from entering the restaurant, and teams are working to protect the interior from water damage. The fire was contained at 20:17

An investigator was sent to the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
