Parliament Hill reopens after Ottawa police investigate “possible threat”

Ottawa police said they had completed an investigation that led to the evacuation of Parliament Hill earlier in the day.

The forces say they have not identified a threat to public safety stemming from the incident, adding that roads that were previously closed to the public are now reopened.

The Parliamentary Security Service ordered the evacuation hours earlier, issuing a signal to all parliamentarians and officials, noting that all buildings in the area must be sheltered by orders of another order.

It said the alert referred to a police operation involving a “possible threat” but did not provide other details.

Ottawa police were just as silent, saying only they were investigating a “suspicious incident.”

Neither the police nor the Parliamentary Security Service immediately answered questions about the nature of the operation.
