Ferry service between PEI and Nova Scotia has been suspended for the weekend as the fire that forced more than 200 passengers and staff to evacuate the MV Holiday Island on Friday continues to burn.
Passengers have also been told by Northumberland Ferries that the company is unsure whether the vehicles on board can be returned.
Northumberland Ferries announced Friday evening that ferry service between Caribou, NS and Wood Islands, PEI will be canceled for a second day due to the MV Holiday Island emergency. He said in an update the following morning that all crossings would also be canceled on Sunday.
As of 9 a.m. Saturday, smoke could still be seen from the PEI-bound ferry, almost a full day after a fire broke out in the ship’s engine room.

Northumberland Ferries said in an updated text message to passengers at around 10am that the fire had not been extinguished and that they were not yet aware of the possibility of recovering vehicles.
