People are upset by Pride Toronto’s new photography policy

The Toronto Pride Parade is a huge celebration that honors all members of the LGBTQ + community, attracting thousands of people around the world as one of the largest gay pride festivals in the world.

The festival is not only strong, colorful and exciting to participate, but also a safe place for everyone who wants to attend.

Pride is defined as “involving all races, communities and gender identities”, allowing everyone to come together and feel comfortable in the same space.

That’s why some say it’s strange to see suddenly frightening signs outside this year’s festival, warning people that their photos will be taken using quite intense and sinister language to convey that message.

“Please note that by entering this area, you agree to the use of your image, voice, name and / or likeness, without compensation, in all media, whether known now or created from now on, for eternity and you release Pride Toronto, its heirs, assignors and licensees from any liability of any kind, ”reads one sign.

. @ PrideToronto in which universe is this [your] photo / video policy compatible with trance and queer release purposes? because as a professor of physics who studies quantum space-time, I can assure you that this is not * this * universe. 🙄🌈 pic.twitter.com/mNvN6JyKX6

People are shocked and upset to see these signs, suggesting that the new video and photography policy is far from meeting the overarching goals of the queer liberation festival.

The language itself is something that people actively hate, which suggests that the festival has any right to interfere with your privacy.

This is especially shocking this weekend. The complete lack of support for body autonomy from an organization that claims to represent communities that have been disproportionately targeted with threats to body autonomy NOW, TODAY … that’s too much.

One of the warning signs even addresses minors who wish to attend the festival, stating that “if you are under the age of eighteen, you declare that you have obtained the consent of your parent / guardian to enter [the] zone and be bound by the conditions set out herein. “

You can’t threaten the people who LIVE HERE if they don’t want their photos to be used without consent, they can’t be on the street.

Pride, of all organizations, must know better than it implies consent to share images with people.

In addition, you must not accept the consent of minors. pic.twitter.com/yqTCP7h0Cv

It’s as if all minors actually understand exactly what they’re signing up for.

It is uncertain why these policies came into force suddenly and whether they will continue to take effect in the future.

Whatever the reason, it upsets many people who come to Pride specifically to celebrate in a safe environment.
