Phyllis fired Joe Girardi after a bad start to the season

Joe Girardi’s seat went from hot to smoky.

Philadelphia Phyllis fired his manager amid the start of the 2022 season with a score of 22-29, the team announced on Friday.

“This has been a disappointing season for us so far, as we believe our club has not played to its full potential,” Phyllis Baseball President Dave Dombrowski said in a statement. “While we all share the responsibility for the shortcomings, I felt that change was needed and that a new voice in the club would give us the best chance to turn things around.

Rob Thomson will take over the post in Phyllis’ dugout.

“I believe we have a talented group that can get back on track and I am confident that Rob, with his experience and knowledge of our club, is the right person to lead us.”

Thomson, who spent 10 of his 28 seasons with the Yankees as a bench coach and third baseman, became the 56th manager in the franchise’s history.

“I am extremely excited about this opportunity and appreciate the trust Dave has shown me,” he said. “Having said that, this is an emotional day for me because I have worked closely with Joe for so many years. This has been my home for the last five years and I care deeply about this franchise, this city, our players, our coaches, our staff and our fans, I am ready to lead this team and I look forward to getting to work and turn it around. “

Girardi’s time ended in Philly with a record 132-141 for two or more seasons. The former Yankees manager spent 10 seasons in the Bronx, leading the team to the World Series title in 2009. For 14 seasons as MLB manager, his teams ranked 1120-935.
