An application has been submitted for planning the construction of a new underground hydroelectric plant at Hollow Mountain in Argyll and Butte.
Renewable energy developer Drax has proposed building the complex on the site of Ben Croixan, where there is already an existing underground energy facility.
The company has sent its application to the Scottish Government and work could begin in 2024 if the plans are approved.
Drax said the process of obtaining consent from the Scottish government could take about a year.
It also says the project – which could see the first-ever renewable energy scheme in the UK in more than 40 years – will need support from the UK government before it can continue.
Drax hopes the scheme will work by 2030.
