Toronto police have filed charges against a third suspect wanted in a moving scam after two men were arrested in the case last week.
Police say two men ran several budget movers under different names.
Customers have been given a low-cost contract to move their belongings, and once the belongings are loaded on a truck, the men will contact customers and ask for more money, police said.
Customers were then forced to pay inflated prices in the thousands of dollars to get their items, according to police. If they could not pay, police said their items were kept in an unopened warehouse, while storage fees were paid.
On June 24, police carried out search warrants in the Bellamy Road and Progress Avenue areas and arrested two men.
Toronto residents Jemal Ozturk and Dogan Celik, both 30, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and four counts of false claims, fraud of more than $ 5,000, mischief of more than $ 5,000 and possession of property acquired through crime.
On Wednesday, police said they had filed charges against another suspect believed to be involved in the fraud.
Twenty-seven-year-old Amethyst Jones from Toronto turned himself in to police and faces the same charges against Ozturk and Celik.
“As part of this investigation, officers seized a significant amount of personal belongings believed to be victims. It will take some time to sort them and return them to their owners. Victims can request these items by contacting investigators at 416-808-4100, “a police statement said.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the police at 416-808-4100 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
