Police arrested after the Kitchener man was “caught” by witnesses

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested a 48-year-old Kitchener man in connection with an investigation into a stolen vehicle.

In a press release, police said officers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle in the area of ​​Hoffmann Street and Mainzinger Avenue in Kitchener around 7:15 a.m. Saturday, May 28.

Const. Andre Johnson said the victim of the car theft on May 25 was driving when he noticed his stolen vehicle and saw a man enter it. Then he followed.

The suspect fled the car on foot and was caught by witnesses in the area, police said.

Police arrived on the scene a little later and also found a backpack, which the suspect dropped.

Police found drugs in the backpack, including alleged ecstasy, methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl.

A 48-year-old man from Kitchener is now charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $ 5,000
  • Four charges of possession for drug trafficking
  • Surgery for drug-damaged patients
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon in violation of a prohibition order
  • Drive while under suspension
