Police cut off the road after reports of gunshots near a pub

A large cordon has been set up near a busy pub after reports that they were shot.

Police were called around 6:45 p.m. on June 8 to report that three men had rushed to the Arrowe Park pub on Arrowe Park Road, shouting that they had been shot. A large cordon was laid on Church Lane and Commonfield Road, Woodchurch, after an investigation was launched.

Further down Church Lane, just behind the shops, was a separate cordon. Customers who left the pub around 9pm told ECHO people that they “ran inside and said they had been shot”.

They said the pub was closed at the time as officers were investigating. There are no reports of injuries. Officers remain in the area to conduct forensic medicine, video surveillance and witness investigations, and talk to the local community.

The checks continue and anyone who has any information is asked to come forward. Detective Inspector Darren Hankin said: “We are at a very early stage of the investigation and will remain in the area to reassure the community and gather information.

“Initially, it seemed to be a targeted attack, but we are open about the circumstances. The use of weapons on our streets will not be tolerated and we know that this will be a worrying incident for the locals. An in-depth investigation is underway.

“If you have seen or heard anything suspicious on or around Arrowe Park Road around 6.45pm, or have recorded video surveillance or video cameras, please say so confidentially, as any information may be vital to the investigation.
