A man suspected of killing a 23-year-old mother from Calgary last month was detained by police at a southwestern residence on Friday.

Officers say police arrested Gerald Russell Frommelt, 37, at a home in Block 1900 on 24th Street SW around 3:50 p.m.

Frommelt was wanted on a second-degree murder charge in the shooting of Jamie Lynn Shayble, a young mother of one child.

Scheible was found on block 300 of Templeview Drive NE with a gunshot wound on April 7. She later died at Foothills Medical Center.

Police issued an order for Frommelt across Canada on April 12. About two weeks later, police issued a statement asking for public assistance in finding Frommelt, who was believed to be still hiding in Calgary with the help of others.

According to court documents, Frommelt has had several clashes with police over the past 13 years.

Frommelt was one of 35 people arrested in a police operation involving Hells Angels staff in Winnipeg in 2009. He was sentenced the following year to six years in prison after pleading guilty to cocaine trafficking. criminal organization and conspiracy to launder the proceeds of crime.
