POLICE have confirmed a body has been found in the Manchester Ship Canal in Stockton Heath.
Efforts to identify the man are ongoing.
At around 10.15 this morning, Friday, the police received a report of a person who had fallen into the canal.
A search was launched to find the person and a huge presence of emergency services attended the scene – including police, fire and ambulance services.
Officers were also supported by a police helicopter, an underwater search team and a fire service boat.
The Northwich Road swing bridge has been closed in both directions since this morning while emergency services deal with the incident – and remains closed now.
