Police raid downtown Sutton Coldfield after riots and “shots”

Police are investigating riots and “shots” have closed the main road in Sutton Coldfield. The incident led to the closure of Queen Street and a number of roads around the city center.

A police cordon was set up this morning (June 18th) to divert motorists and pedestrians. West Midlands police confirmed that they were called downtown in the early hours of this morning to investigate the riots and report the shootings.

A spokesman said: “Roads are closed at Sutton Coldfield as we investigate the riots at The Parade in the early hours of this morning. A member of the public said he heard gunshots and officers arrived on the scene within minutes.

“We are talking to witnesses and watching CCTV cameras in the area. One man said he was punched in the face but did not need hospital treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Photos from the scene early this morning show something that appears to be forensic scientists searching the scene behind Birmingham Road stores. Since the West Midlands police provided an update, all closed roads and cordons have been removed.

The car parks in the city center have also reopened.
