Police descended into downtown Liverpool after a bus driver was attacked in the St. John’s area.
The 64-year-old man was found with a head injury after being attacked by two men on Elliot Street on Sunday, June 26. The attackers reportedly fled in the direction of Lime Street Station and were spotted on CCTV heading to Skelhorne Street around 5:35 p.m.
One witness described seeing police and paramedics caring for a man on the sidewalk as they went to catch the bus last night. Merseyside police said the bus driver was taken to hospital for treatment and is currently under investigation.

A police cordon was set up around the bus stop opposite Wetherspoons on Elliot Street on Sunday as emergency services worked on the scene. Dozens of messages were shared on social media after the attack, as people wished the bus driver a speedy recovery.
A police spokesman said: “At around 5.35pm yesterday afternoon, Sunday, June 26, officers were called to report an attack in downtown Liverpool. A 64-year-old man was found at St Johns Precinct on Elliot Street and was taken to hospital with head injury after being attacked by two men.
“The men reportedly fled in the direction of Lime Street station and were spotted by CCTV cameras heading for Skelhorne Street at around 5.35pm. There was an accident on Elliot Street while emergency services were in the area and it was an ongoing investigation.
