President Biden is proposing to demolish Rob’s primary school, which killed 21 people, the US senator said

President Biden told a local lawmaker during a visit to Uwalde on Sunday that the federal government could provide resources for the destruction of Rob Elementary School, where 19 children and two teachers were shot and killed earlier this week.

“He said, ‘I’m not leaving. I will bring you resources. We will seek to demolish this school, to build a new one, “said Senator Roland Gutierrez, who represents Uwalde, he told KSAT.

“I can’t tell you how many young children I’ve talked to who don’t want to enter this building. They are just traumatized. They are simply destroyed. ”

Other sites of mass shootings have been demolished in recent years.

Sandy Hook Elementary School, where a gunman shot and killed 26 people in 2012, was demolished and replaced with a new $ 50 million school on the same property in Newtown, Connecticut.

Colorado school officials considered demolishing Columbine High School in 2019 because of a “painful charm” around the building where 13 people were killed in 1999, but eventually decided not to demolish it.

Congregation at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, about 110 miles east of Uwalde, voted last year to demolish the old church, where a gunman opened fire in 2017, killing 26 people, according to KENS.

Biden also told Gutierrez that he was committed to providing mental health resources to the community after the shooting this week.

“This is a community that will need therapy. There is one psychiatrist in Uwalde, very few mental health therapists. We will change that. That’s a must, “Gutierrez told KSAT.

The president visited a memorial in front of Rob Elementary School on Sunday before attending a liturgy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, after which he met with the families of the victims and first aid workers.
