As the Duchess of Cambridge boldly tried to keep her youngest son focused on the sky, he clasped his hands above his ears to block out the noise and placed his elbow on the balcony with his chin in his hands.
But as the excitement of the spring grew, he jumped up and down on the ground, shouting for the Queen’s helicopters and planes, Prince Charles, his mother, and anyone else who wanted to listen.
At one point, both he and the Duchess uttered a loud “wow.”
The queen looked fascinated as the duchess repeated each mother during a tense family occasion, watching her youngest, partly condescendingly, partly resolutely, to ensure that he behaved properly.
At the crucial moment of the national anthem, Prince George and Princess Charlotte stood in perfect courtesy, arms folded, and Prince Louis joined them flawlessly before being distracted.
