This will not be the first time Covid has failed Apple’s schedule. The iPhone 12 was announced in October 2020, a month later than Apple normally launches its new iPhone due to the pandemic. Although Covid-19 cases worldwide are much lower than at the height of the pandemic, the virus is still high among us, with parts of China withstanding new blockades under the zero-covid regime’s policies.
Parts of Shanghai were closed in late March, and although restrictions have eased since then, the supply chain disruption continues.
The reopening of Shanghai has been described by an Apple vendor as “quite slow”. Apple has reportedly told suppliers to speed up production to make up for lost time.
The company has already warned that blocking restrictions in China have disrupted the production of current iPhone models. That could cost Apple up to $ 8 billion in revenue this quarter alone.
One iPhone 14 model is reported to be about three weeks behind. Although the report does not specify which of the four new iPhones it is, it is believed that this is the iPhone 14 Max, the only completely new version in the range.
The iPhone 14 Max is said to have the same features as the iPhone 14, but with the same screen size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. It is widely believed that it replaces the iPhone Mini version seen in the iPhone 12 and 13 range.
However, lagging behind the graphics does not necessarily mean that the iPhone will be fun. Mass production is not expected to begin until the end of August or the first week of September, so Apple still has little room to move.
“If the development process can be accelerated and moved to the next level around the end of June or the beginning of July, then it must still be possible to meet the mass production deadline of early September,” the man told Nikkei. familiar with the issue. . “But it really depends on whether the process can be accelerated soon.”
