More than half a million dollars worth of drugs were confiscated by police in a major operation involving Okanagan and Alberta.
The Project Deception included organized crime units in British Columbia, the Federal RCMP and Leydminster, where the investigation began.
Lloydminster police initially seized drugs in May 2021 and launched an operation to dismantle the upper drug supply line and “eradicate” suppliers based in Kelowna and Edmonton.
The seizures of drugs distributed during the investigation took place in Lloydminster, Edmonton, Springbrook, Altai, Kelowna, British Columbia and Vernon, British Columbia. On June 1, 2022, numerous homes were searched.
The drugs alone have an estimated street value of $ 571,000, and the items seized include:
- Two pistols with ammunition;
- 3600 grams of cocaine;
- 3,055 grams of putative polishing agents;
- 1223 grams of methamphetamine;
- 275 grams of putative fentanyl;
- $ 101,888 in cash; and
- $ 147,872 in seized assets, including jewelry.
A press release from Alberta’s law enforcement response teams said the Deception project was ongoing and investigators were preparing reports and disclosing information about the Crown Counsel. “Several” suspects have been identified in both provinces.
“Working with our ALERT partners is crucial both for the coordinated sharing of intelligence and for the significant strengthening of law enforcement efforts against those involved in organized crime. Law enforcement is aware that those individuals and groups involved in drug trafficking and violent crime do not comply with provincial boundaries, ”said Supt. Duncan Pound, CFSEU-BC, Deputy Operations Officer.
“CFSEU-BC is committed to working closely with our partners in Canada to ensure that we increase public safety in British Columbia; the arrests and charges resulting from this ALERT investigation represent a significant success in law enforcement for British Columbia, Alberta and Canada. “
