Police say nearby businesses are being evacuated due to a fire at an equipment rental facility in Etobico, which has exploded in a number of propane tanks.
The three-alarm fire broke out for the first time around 3:40 p.m. in a business near Racine Road and Brydon Drive, near Kipling Avenue and Rexdale Boulevard.
Toronto Fire says there are approximately 40 propane tanks at the scene and that all units are advised to fight the fire from a defensive position as a precaution.
A command post has been built in the area.
“It’s a very active scene. The scene of the fire and explosion seems to be changing by the minute. An evacuation from the emergency services is underway, and we encourage everyone to stay out of the area while we try to help evacuate local businesses, “said the Toronto Police Department. Alex Lee told CP24. “The good news right now is that no injuries have been reported and we would like it to stay that way. So avoid the area.
There are currently about 30 different vehicles and 100 firefighters on the scene.
Racine Road is closed between Martin Grove Road and Kipling Avenue.
