Social cohesion will be undermined if the authorities do not oppose the protests of “religious mobs”, a government adviser said last night.

Khan, the independent adviser on social cohesion and sustainability, said local and central governments have not shown enough leadership in defending democratic values. She added that “threats and fear” are used by groups trying to stop legal activities.
