Province launches plan for at-risk species in limestone deserts

The province has launched a plan to help restore at-risk species in some unique habitats.

Newfoundland and Labrador is home to a number of species unique to limestone deserts, ten of which are listed as endangered.

The Limestone Desert Species at Risk Recovery Plan is a guide to protecting the plant species found on the Great Northern and Port o Port Peninsulas.

Three of the species, which are highly specialized and adapted to limestone deserts, are found only in the Northern Peninsula.

Meanwhile, another management plan was published for Water Pygmyweed, a small herbaceous plant known to occur only in the southern Avalon and Burin Peninsulas.
